Enjoying the hearty perennials of summer in this mostly native summer bouquet! With such a great show of blooms in the garden I didn’t hesitate to craft this lovely bouquet with still plenty of flowers left for the pollinators.
Featured in the color palette are yellows, purples, burgundy and green.
The bouquet is a mix of sturdy native perennials like Rudbeckia hirta and Solidago shortii ‘Solar Cascade’ in yellow and Monarda fistulosa ‘Claire Grace’ in purple-ish pink.
Added to those are burgundy seed heads from Penstemon, dainty purple blooms of Thai basil, white blooms from Achillea and yellow umbrels from parsley. Added for greenery are the threadlike leaves of Amsonia hubrichtii and stems of Fothergilla gardenii.
I love the big, bold blooms of Rudbeckia hirta and the firework-like blooms of Monarda. This is just one example of a summer bouquet using mostly native perennials! What treasures do you grow that you’d include? What color palettes, textures and structures? Do you add fragrant herbs?
