I am not an artist.

I can only admire and be inspired by what the artist does. I’ve seen the way an artist makes a simple sketch, for instance. The artist has already sketched the scene, regarded and contemplated the light and shadows, reimagined the colors in brush strokes, all while I am still trying to get the perspective right with stiff, straight lines. And there’s usually one particular place in my drawing that gets a lot of erasure marks.

That’s the kind of artist that I am.

Card making to me is a way of making something beautiful and useful without having to be an artist. Some card makers truly are artists and we admire the style and beauty that they can pack onto such a small canvas.

The small canvases of card making generally consist of layouts, layers and textures. Styled or free-form. With the aid of color, stamping, two-dimensional die cuts and embellishments, anyone can glue or tape it all together and make a lovely gift. Add thoughtful and encouraging words and you have something heartfelt and genuine.

Perhaps you don’t regard yourself as much of an artist either. Maybe you’re someone that already ‘gets’ color or has quite the ‘crafty’ stash. Maybe you like to make doodles and drawings and give them to friends. If so, Card Making will hopefully be a resource for you to be inspired and ‘get ideas’ and make something that will make someone else happy but most importantly that you can enjoy while you’re doing.
