Altenew Inspiration Challenge

Following is a design inspired by the November 2024 Altenew Inspiration Challenge seen here:

from Altenew’s Card Blog

My design features two poinsettias cut from a Die-namics die set from My Favorite Things. I didn’t want too much red in my poinsettias so I cut bract flower layers in both ivory and dark red cardstock. The leaves are cut from the same set in Concord & 9th’s Rainforest cardstock.

There are so many beautiful cultivated poinsettias out there. Some flower bracts are red speckled with white, some are all apricot, some white, some change color over time and turn pale green or yellow. The two tone ones are very striking. So these variations are also my inspiration. Look for other fun combos in the future.

I set the poinsettias on Vintage Christmas patterned cardstock from The Paper Studio (Hobby Lobby) and inked the edges with Distress Walnut Stain. For embellishment I dry inked the edges of the green leaves with Delicata Golden Glitz pigment ink (Tsukineko) using a small head blending brush. The leaves are cut from C9 Rainforest cardstock and the flower centers are cut from C9 Stardust (one of my fave C9 colors) cardstock.

That card went on to inspire another poinsettia flower arrangement with three layers of bracts in ivory, pinks and lots of glitter.

I once again used ivory cardstock as part of the flower, adding a layer of C9 Grapefruit cardstock bracts and a layer of glitter cardstock bracts. The flower centers were cut using The Paper Studio Gold foil cardstock. The C9 Rainforest leaves were dry inked with Delicata Silvery Shimmer pigment ink. The flowers were affixed upon another piece of pattern cardstock from the same pad.

I love breaking away from the traditional red poinsettia, though gorgeous in its own right. This opens up new possibilities and combinations whether you use glitter cardstock or not. This die set also has some very nice embossing that adds to the lovely detail of the flower bracts and leaves.

This die set features two sizes of flower bracts, two leaf sizes and three different flower centers to choose from: severnista.com

Have you tried this month’s inspiration challenge yet? When I drifted a little from the bright red and green I found a version of this color palette that I liked better with a card design that was fairly easy to achieve .
