I’m in love with these color combo pins for Concord & 9th (C9) dye inks that I’m seeing on Pinterest. They are based off of C9’s ink collection that currently includes 54 colors. First released in 2020 as a custom palette ink line (with cardstock to match), the collection has had two additional releases, 25 inks in 2023 and six new colors this past spring, 2024.

These pin swatches are from popular card designers (including Cathy Zielske, Jennifer McGuire, Kristina Werner, and more) and I have picked a few of my favorite color combinations to base my own card creations upon.

I love color!
I also have a thing for color swatches and seeing different color sets put together in a simple palette. I love to pin paint store swatches and also those beautiful color swatches inspired by amazing, and sometimes ethereal photographs. Now I can easily pin my card making ink swatches from one of my favorite dye ink lines.

Because not all of us ‘get’ color, these swatches take one important step out of the card design process by offering up a simple palette of colors that have been tested and approved to coordinate. I can grasp the concept of the color wheel but in practice I am sometimes challenged by what colors are really going to work together.

Ink collection colors are designed to work together. For instance most of Catherine Pooler Design inks fall into two main collections: the Spa Collection and the Party Collection (as seen laid out in her color wheels). The Spa Collection is more earth toned and sophisticated whereas the Party Collection is bright and bold. The ink saturation differs in each collection and so that those colors coordinate better with one another in that collection. Go the link to see her inks:

But color combos are also about where the colors fall on that wheel too.
Having a color combo swatch already at hand is incredibly helpful and also inspiring. These may be color choices that you would not normally use together so that it offers a new challenge to your card making designs. Why not use what’s already there and go make something?

I’m challenging myself to design cards with five of these Concord & 9th color combos based off of these Pinterest pins. (These colors I have covered). Have you looked to these designer palettes for inspiration? If so, what have you created with them?
