A Classic Pair: Pink and Black

Going for a simple color scheme? Bright, bold color? Pink and black are a classic pair of colors to combine in a multi-layered card.

This birthday card has several layers of dimension to it and the color scheme is kept simple with two shades of pink, greens, black and white.

The background is created with Altenew’s Layered Dahlia stencil. This is a two stencil set. I picked two shades of pink and two greens plus black to add color to the stencil on a white card base. I then die cut a tag using Simon Says Stamp’s Noted Tag die cut, which measures roughly 2 1/2 x 3 3/4 inches. After die cutting I embossed the tag with floral embossing folder.

I die cut various floral sprigs ( SSS’s Leafy Branch and Altenew’s Branches and Berries Die Set) in white and black card stock to affix behind the tag and keep to a simple color scheme. The bold pinks of the Dahlia are still able to stand out .

I then printed soft rectangular frames with a custom black outline on my Cricut Explore Air 2. I stamped “Have A…Birthday” with space in between to affix my separately stamped and die cut ‘Happy’ sentiment. This sentiment is from Lawn Fawn’s Happy, Happy, Happy coordinating stamp and die set.

I really like the all cap formal “Have A … Happy” with the casual ‘Happy’ stamp. The soft rectangle serves as a good blank space to mix up your sentiments and wishes. I decided to make at least two identical cards and very sparingly stamped one shade of the pinks as a splatter look on this rectangular frame. The faux splatter seen here is from Concord & 9th’s Hello Lovely Stamp set, an oldie but such a good one!

If you don’t want to hand splatter ink for this effect, there are other background texture stamps that often come in various sets that you can use to get a similar look.

After gluing it all together I tied white and black twine from The Paper Studio to the embossed background tag. This style of card can give you so many options to change up for different looks. Try using as a holiday card with more ‘holiday’ type foliage dies or embossing folders. Switch up your stencil and change out your sentiments for any occasion.

I love how the classic color pair of pink and black get to really stand out here, don’t you?
